Memorable…

Here at Christ Fellowship we have a worship leader meeting every monday where we dissect the past weekend and where we talk and dream about the weeks to come. Sometimes the artist inside the worshippers will come out. Yesterday I realized that I was amidst a group of poets and romantics. I’ll give you two quotes from the meeting yesterday to prove my point…

  • Pastor Sammy Flores (on why you should use a click track)
    • “Some people just have an awesome tempo in their soul, others just don’t”
  • Berchman Paul (talking about lighting and how he looked on video in the screens)
    • “When the camera was panning from left to right all you saw were shiny glasses and a smile”

I love working with these Artists.

Fat man challenge

Here at Christ Fellowship, much like in many other regions of this World, humans have struggled and battled against a nasty villain, a virulent vermin that has crept into our body from cattle to kitchen to mouth to stomach to casket. Let’s call this enticing, and temporarily satisfying villain, Victoria. She’s bad, and here at Christ Fellowship we intend to defeat her. The strategy… The 2007-2008 FAT MAN CHALLENGE.

Some of the contestants participating in the challenge are “Geiger’s daddy” Jeff Borton (CF Student Pastor, fisherman), “Your daddy” Eric Geiger (CF Executive Pastor, Ping Pong connoisseur), “Big Pappa Pump” Carlos Torres (Entepreneur, Pappa John’s customer), “Kendall Buddha” Jamie Seohanes (West Kendall Drummer and former Priest) , “Robert” Robert Crisler (Revolution Media Director, Bounty Hunter) , yours truly, and others…

It is a competition to not only see who loses the most percentage of weight but also fat. CHEA!

Whoever loses the challenge will show his before and after picture and endure other forms of humilia… accountability. (when positive reinforcement is just not enough)

Stay in tune for videos, pictures, stories and more!

Do me a favor, keep me in line, I need your help.

New Website. CHEA!

Check out our new church website. It’s dope. God’s doing some awesome things at CF!

letter to self.

Epale chamo,

I think you think you’re a good person deep down inside, but you’re not.

Love, C.

Friends. Deep thoughts. Deeper pictures.

My cousin Heredes is a Pastor and we generally get together and hold family forums revolving theological discussions and thoughts on culture. After an arduous session of soul searching… my cousin Marcy (Heredes’ wife), My wife Cassie, Heredes and I realized we were actually caught on camera having these discourses. Here are some of the pics of that memorable evening…

Michael Jackson sometimes joins in the discussion. My wife is apparently scared of him.

Chocolate Milk

I love chocolate milk, I’m going to have to not drink it for a while. It raises your cholesterol, it helps you gain weight, etc. I love the taste though, not YooHoo, but the kind you buy at the grocery store or the one you make with chocolate syrup.

chocolate_milk_in_glass.jpg

On a positive note, making chocolate milk can help explain the question of whether you need more Holy Spirit in your life or not. Just ask Eric.

You see, when you make chocolate milk with Hershey’s syrup, or any other chocolater syrup, the syrup goes right to the bottom of the milk glass. You have to stir it in order for the chocolate to spread throughout the entire glass. But it’s the same amount of chocolate whether you stir it or not. In the same way, when Holy Spirit comes to inhabit our life it’s the Holy Spirit in its entirety, he doesn’t just come in parts. However, when it comes to the filling of the Holy Spirit in your life, the illustration is that you have to allow Him to permeate every part of your life or “stir it up constantly” so that it may fill your life.

I hope I get the video soon. Check out Eric’s blog here. He’s joined the Fat Man Challenge.

Embracing Accusation

Shane and Shane are sick. like sick. Their website should be (www.shane&shane.sick/unreal/whyyoushouldn’tsing/CHEA.) Not only do they sing like angels, which makes me feel like I should go ahead and do something else rather than lead worship, but they seem to have degrees in theology and writing. Seriously, God really blesses these guys with amazing songs. Check out this new one from their new album “PAGES” it’s called “embracing accusation.”After you examine the meaning behind the song, gimme a chea, and e-mail me with collective praise for what God has done in their lives…and in your ears.

Reach Beyond

downtown_skyline-4695.jpg

This week I went downtown with our small group to “Reach Beyond” the doors of the church out into the community. We passed out free water bottles and gave invite cards to people. There’s a couple things I learned about this outreach.
1. Miami people are naturally very skeptical and distrustful.
2. Downtown is ridiculously diverse. Like crazy. like miami isdiverse.com/downtown/sick.jpeg
3. People in of walks of life want, crave peace, understanding, purpose.
4. I need to memorize tons of scripture.

Let me delve into one of these. I met a drug dealer when I handed out the water bottle. Great guy, charming, friendly, I mean he’s from Hawaii so what do you expect? He told me that he had been married for 15 years and that those years had been the best in his life. He said that he went to church, that everything was awesome during that time BUT, that he also was very tempted with money and power throughout his life. He told me “the thing is, the bad things also feel so good man.” Anyways he decided to sell drugs to make some good money, to have a cool life, and in the middle of one of his crazy stories I realized that they were actually very interesting, fun, some would say. I could see how a man could be attracted to those things, to that life, to the allure and the thrill. I could see how I would be attraacted to the “fun” of it. It reminded me of what Pastor Blackwood from our church said in one of the sermons in our last series. He said, “you know what the biggest lie that the devil has? It’s simply this. Christians can’t have fun.” Should I say more?

And there, you see, I saw a man consumed by sin, drenched in the guilt of what he did to his family, discouraged because he doesn’t believe God can change him, a man that believes “its only downhill from here…” he actually goes to the 8:45 service at what used to be Central Baptist Church. He said he’d go check CF Downtown now… I pray God would use us to help him.

Reach Beyond is cool

Lukewarm

So I finally heard Francis Chan’s passion 07 message this morning. (you can check it here)and it was awesome. He talks about being lukewarm as a Christian and how it is so commonplace in the American church. These days it seems like the glory of Christ and the majesty of his throne are just as good as a Heat game, or a U2 concert. You gotta check it out. Maybe, just maybe you’ll can see him at one of the passion conferences this year… or maybe instead of going into debt to go see him preach, instead of trying to find God’s glory in some conference, you could go home and spend some time with God and ask Him to show you. Alone……I need to do that.

Chan will be at some of these…
